more about this venue

A Brief History ……

Mill Street Barracks, a cornerstone of Liverpool’s military history, was established in 1802 during the Napoleonic Wars to accommodate British troops.

Over the years, it evolved into a pivotal center for military operations, witnessing the tumultuous events of two World Wars and beyond.

During World War I, the barracks served as a training ground for soldiers bound for the Western Front. It also became a hub for recruitment, with eager volunteers flooding its gates to join the war effort. Amidst the chaos of battle, tales emerged of spectral figures haunting the barracks, believed to be the restless souls of fallen soldiers seeking refuge in familiar surroundings.

In the interwar period, Mill Street Barracks continued to play a vital role in the defense of Liverpool and its strategic ports. However, whispers of ghostly apparitions and eerie occurrences persisted among the troops stationed there. Stories circulated of phantom sentries patrolling the grounds and inexplicable phenomena that left even the most skeptical soldiers on edge.

With the outbreak of World War II, Mill Street Barracks once again braced itself for the rigors of war. As the conflict raged on, reports of paranormal activity intensified, with soldiers recounting encounters with spectral entities and inexplicable disturbances echoing through the barracks’ halls.

In the post-war years, as the barracks transitioned into peacetime use, reports of hauntings persisted, cementing its reputation as one of Merseyside’s most haunted locations. Today, Mill Street Barracks stands as a testament to its storied past, inviting brave souls to join RIP-UK on a ghost hunt and delve into the mysteries that linger within its historic confines.

Will you dare to uncover the truth behind the legends at this iconic Liverpool landmark?

The RIP-UK promise… this is REAL ghost hunting! As a team we promise on our events we fake nothing, we actively ask our event venue hosts to ensure any and all devices in the venue that could distract or cause false positives are turned off.

We set up nothing more than the refreshments! This means what happens, happens but we will not make something happen falsely. We do endeavour to create every opportunity for genuine activity through vigil guidance and experiements.

To get the most from the evening we encourage you to try your hand at as many things as you can, if you’re feeling particularly brave you could try a lone vigil, join others on a ouija board or perhaps even sensory deprivation experiments as we try to commune with the spirits and ghosts of the building.
