Some locations have a presence that lingers before you even step inside. Closeburn Castle, nestled in a secluded patch of woodland about 12 miles north of Dumfries, is one such place. With its imposing stone walls and centuries of history etched into its very foundations, the scene was set for an intriguing night of paranormal investigation.
This was our first time at Closeburn, and as always, our night began with preparation—setting up refreshments, checking batteries, and performing a safety walkthrough to ensure everything was in place before welcoming our eager guests. The castle itself stood silent, as if waiting to reveal its secrets.
Before venturing into the unknown, we gathered our guests for a group photo—a tradition at every RIP-UK event. But little did we know that even in this seemingly routine moment, the night was already taking an unexpected turn. A closer look at the photo later would reveal something perplexing, something that defied simple explanation. Could we have captured evidence of the paranormal before our investigation had even begun?
Stay tuned as we delve deeper into the night’s events, the eerie experiences, and the unexplained phenomena that made our first visit to Closeburn Castle one to remember…

As the night progressed, the team and guests explored every accessible floor of the castle, engaging in a range of paranormal experiments. Ouija boards were carefully set up, motion-activated devices stood ready to detect movement, K2 meters flickered with anticipation, and séances were held in the hopes of making contact with whatever spirits might still linger within the castle walls. Throughout the night, voices called out into the darkness, hoping for a response from the unknown.
Photographs were taken continuously, both by the team and our guests, in an attempt to capture anything out of the ordinary. At first glance, they appeared typical—shadowed corridors, flickering candlelight, the occasional orb of dust. But as we reviewed them, something caught our attention.
A peculiar green light.
What made this anomaly so intriguing was not just its presence, but the way it appeared. Different people, using different cameras and smartphones, at different times and angles, had all managed to capture the same mysterious green spot of light. Some photos were taken in quick succession, others minutes or even hours apart—yet the phenomenon remained eerily consistent.

Could this be a simple trick of the light—perhaps a lens flare, a reflection from an unseen source, or even a quirk of the camera sensor? Or does this green light hint at something beyond our understanding? Given its repeated appearance across different devices and angles, the possibility of a paranormal origin cannot be ignored. Some have theorized it could be an energy manifestation, an entity attempting to make itself known in a subtle yet persistent way.
As we continue to analyze the footage and photos, the mystery of Closeburn Castle only deepens. Was this the castle’s way of letting us know we were not alone?

Sure! one instance could be put down to a simple fault in the device or a matter of circumstance, abosolutely in the first image we can see that the light at the top of the stairs is a potential source of lens flare, however this would prove to be the first of many instances, so many we have to consider that the light may NOT be the source of the mysterious spot of light.

What are your thoughts on this evidence?

Only after thorough evaluation can you begin to assess the likelihood of what’s truly unfolding, and then, make an informed conclusion.
